The Sanderson Payless Story

A family name brought forward into a new kind of entertainment company.

The name Sanderson Payless did not begin with a website. It goes back to the 1950s, when my father operated a gas station under that name. It was a neighborhood business from a very different era — a time when a service station was not only a place to buy fuel, but a place where people stopped, talked, worked on cars and knew the person behind the counter. By the 1960s my father had moved on from the gas station, but the name stayed with me.

For years I thought about bringing Sanderson Payless back in some form. I never really wanted to reopen a gas station, though. My own life went in other directions. I spent years working on cars and around mechanical things, and I spent a good deal of my life moving from place to place, riding motorcycles and doing things my own way. I was never much interested in following a crowd. I was more comfortable traveling my own road and collecting stories, ideas and experiences along the way.

Writing was always part of that road. Ideas for stories, characters, science-fiction worlds and songs accumulated over time. For many years, getting those ideas from a notebook or a computer into something another person could actually read, hear or experience required resources that an independent creator simply did not have. Publishing, recording, artwork and production were all separate worlds, and each one could become expensive very quickly.

That began to change when modern digital tools and artificial intelligence became practical creative tools. Suddenly I had a way to take ideas that had been sitting with me for years and work them into finished projects. Self-publishing through Barnes & Noble gave me a path for the books. New production tools gave me a way to develop the music from the lyrics, themes and musical direction I had written. AI became part of the toolbox — not a replacement for imagination, but a way for one person to develop, revise and finish work that once would have required a much larger production team.

As the books grew and the songs grew, the old Sanderson Payless name finally found the right new home. Instead of fuel pumps and a service bay, this version of Sanderson Payless is built around books, original music and weekly cinema. It is a place for people who enjoy stories, science fiction, hard rock, road songs, unusual ideas and the kind of entertainment that feels a little different from everything else on the screen.

Sanderson Payless Entertainment is designed as one connected experience. Readers can discover original books. Music listeners can hear songs built from my lyrics, ideas and direction. Members can step into the Cinema and watch a different weekly feature, with a new movie beginning each Monday and remaining available through Sunday. Over time, I want the different parts of the site to keep growing together — stories inspiring music, music adding atmosphere to stories, and both eventually opening the door to larger visual and cinematic projects.

So in a way, the company has come full circle. The business my father started in the 1950s is not being recreated exactly as it was. It is being carried forward in a form that fits who I am and what I create today. The name is the bridge between those two eras. Sanderson Payless began as my father's business. Sanderson Payless Entertainment is the version I was finally able to build from my own stories, music, imagination and the tools available now.
